  • How Do I Check My DNS Setting?
    Win 9x | Win Me | Win NT | Win 2000 | Win XP | Mac (MacTCP) | Mac (TCP/IP) | Mac OSX

    Windows 95/98 (top of page)

    • Double Click on the My Computer Icon.
    • Double Click on the Dialup Networking Icon.
    • With your right mouse button, click on the Southern Comp Solutions Icon and click on properties.
      • Click on the button or tab labeled Server Type.
      • Click on the button in the lower right called TCP/IP Settings.
      • Be sure the option 'Specify Name Server Addresses' is selected. Check to see that your DNS settings are as follows:
        Primary DNS: 216.241.132.36
        Secondary DNS: 216.241.132.36

      • If your numbers are different, then replace the numbers in the Primary DNS and Secondary DNS fields with the new DNS numbers listed above.
    • Click OK, and keep clicking OK until you've cleared the screen.

    Windows Me (top of page)

    • Double Click on the "My Computer" icon.
    • Double Click on the "Control Panel" icon.
    • Double Click on the Dialup Networking Icon.
    • With your right mouse button, click on the "Southern Comp Solutions" icon and click on properties.
      • Click on the button or tab labeled "Networking".
      • Click on the button in the lower right called TCP/IP Settings.

    Windows NT (top of page)

    • Double Click on the "My Computer" icon.
    • Double Click on "Dial up Networking".
    • Select "Southern Comp Solutions" from the drop down menu.
    • Click "More", and select "Edit entry and modem properties...".
    • Click on the tab labeled "Server".
    • Click on "TCP/IP settings...".
    • Under the area labeled "Specify name server addresses" make sure the settings are as follows:
      • Primary DNS: 216.241.132.36
      • Secondary DNS: 216.241.132.37
      • Primary WINS: 0.0.0.0
      • Secondary WINS: 0.0.0.0
      • Click OK.
    • Click OK.
    • Click Close.

    Windows 2000 (top of page)

    • Click on Start. Point to Settings and select "Control Panel".
    • Double click on "Network and Dial-up Connections".
    • Right Click on the Southern Comp Solutions Icon, and select properties.
    • Click on the tab labeled "Networking".
    • In the white box labeled "Components checked are used by this connection" double click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)".
    • In the area labeled "Use the following DNS server addresses" make sure you see the following:
      • Primary DNS: 216.241.132.36
      • Secondary DNS: 216.241.132.37
    • If they are different make sure you change them to the numbers listed above.
    • Click OK
    • Click OK

    Windows XP (top of page)

    • Click on Start, then select "Control Panel".
    • Double click on "Network and Dial-up Connections".
    • Right Click on the Southern Comp Solutions Icon, and select properties.
    • Click on the tab labeled "Networking".
    • In the white box labeled "Components checked are used by this connection" double click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)".
    • In the area labeled "Use the following DNS server addresses" make sure you see the following:
      • Primary DNS: 216.241.132.36
      • Secondary DNS: 216.241.132.37
    • If they are different make sure you change them to the numbers listed above.
    • Click OK
    • Click OK

    Macintosh with MacTCP (OS 7.1 to 7.5) (top of page)

    • Click on the Apple menu.
    • Select Control Panel and click on MacTCP.
    • Highlight PPP, then click More.
      • In the bottom right, under DNS, check to see that your IP addresses are as follows:
        216.241.132.36
        216.241.132.37
      • If they are different replace the current addresses with the numbers listed above. Make sure that the first is selected as the default.
      • Click OK.
    • Close the MacTCP window.

    Macintosh with TCP/IP (OS 7.6 and higher) (top of page)

    • Click on the Apple menu.
    • Select Control Panel and click on TCP/IP.
      • In the Name Server Addr. field, check to see that your DNS settings are as follows:
        Primary DNS: 216.241.132.36
        Secondary DNS: 216.241.132.37
      • If they are different then replace the current addresses with the DNS numbers listed above.
      • Close the TCP/IP window.
    • When prompted, Click Save.

    Macintosh OS X (top of page)

    • Click on the "System Preferences" icon.
    • Click on the "Network" icon at the top of the window.
    • Click on the tab labeled "TCP/IP".
    • At the bottom left hand corner of the window click on the lock icon to make changes.
    • Type in your computer's administrator username and password.
    • Click on the drop down menu labeled "Configure", and choose "Manually".
    • At the bottom of the screen the box labeled DNS Addresses should have the following info:
      • In the Name Server Addr. field, check to see that your DNS settings are as follows:
        Primary DNS: 216.241.132.36
        Secondary DNS: 216.241.132.37
      • If these need to be changed you can do so by clicking inside the white box and typing in the preceeding numbers.
    • Click Apply.

    How Do I Check My E-mail Settings?
    Note: The following applies only to our dial-up subscribers.

    Windows 95/98/NT
    Eudora Light (top of page)

    • Open Eudora Light.
    • Click on the 'Tools' menu and choose 'Options'.
      • On the left will be a series of catagories. Scroll down to 'Hosts' and click once so that it's highlighted.
      • Check to see that your email server settings are as follows:
        POP Account: pop3.scsisp.com
        SMTP: smtp.scsisp.com
      • If your entries are different, please replace them with those shown above.
    • Click OK.
    • Click on the button in the lower right called TCP/IP Settings.
    • Note:If you have your password saved you will be asked to re-enter it the next time you check mail.

    Netscape Messenger 4.x (top of page)

    • Open Netscape Messenger.
    • Click on the 'Edit' menu and choose 'Preferences.'
    • On the left will be a list of catagories. Double click on 'Mail and Newsgroups' to display the sub-catagories.
    • Click on the 'Mail Servers' sub-catagory so that it's highlighted.
      • In the middle of this section will be a space labled 'Outgoing Mail Server.' Make sure that the entries are as follows:
        Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: smtp.scsisp.com
        Outgoing Mail Server Username: empty
      • If your entries are different, please replace them with those shown above.
      • Click on 'Edit' at the top right.
      • Make sure your mail server settings are as follows:
        'Server Name': mail.scsisp.com
        'Server Type': POP3
        'Username': Your Southern Comp Solutions username
      • If your entries are different, please replace them with those shown above.
      • Click OK.
      • Click OK again.
    • Note: If you have your password saved you will be asked to re-enter it the next time you check mail.

    Outlook Express (top of page)

    • Open Outlook Express.
    • Click on the 'Tools' menu and choose 'Accounts.'
    • Click on the 'Mail' tab, then highlight your Southern Comp Solutions account below.
    • Click the Properties button.
      • Click on the 'Servers' tab and check that the entries are as follows:
        Outgoing Mail (SMTP): smtp.scsisp.com
        Incoming Mail (POP3): pop3.scsisp.com
        Account Name: your Southern Comp Solutions username
      • If your entries are different, please replace them with those shown above.
      • Click OK
    • Click 'Close'
    • Note: If you have your password saved you will be asked to re-enter it the next time you check mail.


    Macintosh
    Eudora Light (top of page)

    • Open Eudora Light.
    • Click on the 'Special' menu and choose 'Settings'.
    • On the left will be a series of categories. Scroll down to 'Hosts' and click once so that it's highlighted.
      • Check to see that your email server settings are as follows:

    • Click OK.

    Outlook Express (top of page)

    • Open Outlook Express.
    • Click on the 'Tools' menu and choose 'Accounts.'
    • Click on the 'Mail' tab, then highlight your Southern Comp Solutions account below.
    • Click on 'Edit'.
      • Click on the 'Account Settings' tab and check that the entries are as follows:
        Outgoing Mail (SMTP): smtp.scsisp.com
        Incoming Mail (POP3): pop3.scsisp.com
        Account Name: your Southern Comp Solutions username
      • If your entries are different, please replace them with those shown above.
      • Click OK.
    • Click 'Close'.
    • Restart Outlook Express.

    How Do I Configure Multiple E-mails?

    Eudora Light (top of page)
    Eudora Light is not designed to support multiple email accounts. Users should upgrade to Eudora Pro or another email program with multiple account support.

    Eudora Pro 4.2 (top of page)

    • Open Eudora Pro.
    • Click the 'Personalities' tab on the sidebar (or choose Personalities from the Tools menu).
    • Right-click in the Personalities window and select 'New...'
    • In the window that appears, select 'Go directly to advanced settings'.
    • Under the 'Generic' tab, enter the following:
      • Personality Name: The name of the 'persona' for this account
      • Real Name: Your real name (as you'd like it to appear in your email messages)
      • Return Address: The return address for your new email account(username@scsisp.com)
      • Username: The username of your new email account
      • SMTP server: smtp.scsisp.com
    • Under the 'Incoming Mail' tab, enter the following:
      • Server: pop3.scsisp.com
      • Choose POP as the server type
      • Be sure to select 'Password' under the Authentication option
    • Click OK.

    Netscape 4.5 (and higher) (top of page)

    • In Windows95 or higher, click on the Start menu, go to Programs -> Netscape Communicator -> Utilities and click on User Profile Manager. [Note: On some systems this option may be unavailable. In that event, click on Start, then Run. In the Run window enter the following (including quotes):

      "c:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\netscape.exe" -profile_manager

      and click OK.] This will bring up the Profile Manager.
      • Click the 'New' button; then click Next.
      • Enter your name (as you'd like it to appear in your email messages) and your new email address (username@scsisp.com). Click Next.
      • Enter the name you'd like to give this profile. Click Next.
      • Enter the name of the smtp server:
        smtp.scsisp.com
        Click Next.
      • Enter the username of your new account, then enter the name of the incoming mail server:
        pop3.scsisp.com
        Make sure the server type is set to POP 3, then click Next.
      • Click Finish
    • On the Macintosh, double click on the User Profile Manager icon in the Netscape folder on your hard drive, then follow the instruction as shown for the Windows version.

      The next time you start Netscape, it will ask you to choose a profile; choose the one appropriate to the account you're checking.

    Outlook Express 5 (Windows) (top of page)
    Outlook Express can check multiple email account together or separately depending on configuration.

    • To check your email accounts together:
      • Open Outlook Express
      • Click on the 'Tools' menu and choose 'Accounts.'
      • Click on the 'Add' button, then select Mail.
      • Enter your display name(as you'd like it to appear in your email messages) and click Next.
      • Select 'I already have an account...' and enter your new email address (username@scsisp.com), then click Next.
      • Make sure incoming mail is set to be a POP3 server. For your incoming mail server, enter the following:
        pop3.scsisp.com
        For your outgoing (SMTP) server, enter the following:
        smtp.scsisp.com
        Click Next.
      • Enter the username and password for your new Southern Comp Solutions mailbox. Be sure that SPA is not checked, then click Next.
      • Click Finish.
    • To check your email account separately:
      • Open Outlook Express
      • On the File menu, choose Identities -> Add new identity...
      • Type a name for this identity, and select whether or not you would like it to be password protected.
      • When prompted to do so, switch to your new identity
      • Continue configuration as described above in the 'check your email accounts together' section

    How Do I Check or Change My Dial in Number?
    Please note, Southern Comp Solutions is not responsible for any long distance telephone charges incurred when connected to our service. If you have any doubt whether dialing one of our access numbers is a local (non-toll) call for you, please ask your local and/or long distance telephone provider.

    Win 95/98 | Win 2000 | Win XP | Mac 7.x | Mac 8.x & 9.x | Mac OSX

    Windows 95/98 (top of page)

    • Double Click My Computer
    • Double Click Dialup Networking
    • Right Click Southern Comp Solutions, and click Properties
    • A dial-in number is displayed in the Telephone Number field.
    • Type in your access number there, then click OK.

    Windows 2000 (top of page)

    • Click on Start, then Settings.
    • Choose Network and Dial-Up Settings from the Settings menu
    • Right Click Southern Comp Solutions, and click Properties
    • A dial-in number is displayed in the Telephone Number field.
    • Type in your access number there, then click OK.

    Windows XP (top of page)

    • Click on Start, then go to Connect To.
    • Right Click Southern Comp Solutions, and click Properties
    • A dial-in number is displayed in the Telephone Number field.
    • Type in your access number there, then click OK.

    Macintosh System 7.x (top of page)

    • Open Control Panel
    • Double Click Config PPP
    • Click Config
    • A dial-in number is displayed in the Telephone Number field.
    • Type in your access number there, then click Done.

    Macintosh System 8.x & 9.x (top of page)

    • Open Control Panel
    • Double Click Remote Access
    • A dial-in number is displayed in the Telephone Number field.
    • Type in your access number there.
    • Close the Remote Access window
    • When prompted, click Save

    Macintosh OS X (top of page)

    • Click on Apple Menu, then System Preferences
    • Double Click Network
    • Click the PPP tab
    • A dial-in number is displayed in the Telephone Number field.
    • Type in your access number there, then click OK.

    How Do I Upload My Personal Web Pages?
    If you wish to create a personal website, please email webpages@southerncomp.com. For now, Southern Comp Solution's LLC uses FTP (File Transfer Protocol) only. It allows you to transfer all kinds of files from the Internet.

    FTP for Windows (top of page)
    Note: These instructions are for the FTP programs that are provided with Southern Comp Solutions's Windows and Windows 95 software.

    • Connect to the system as usual.
    • Open the FTP Program.
    • On the left is your computer and its directories. Maneuver through them to open the directory you want to copy the file from.
    • Click Connect and fill in the following information:
      Host: members.scsisp.com
      Username: your account username
      Password: your account password
      System: Auto
      Click OK.
    • When you are connected, double click on the public_html directory to open it.
    • IMPORTANT Send all .html or .htm files as "ASCII" or "Text", and all other files must be sent as "Binary". Not doing this properly will result in "broken" graphic icons on your pages
    • Click on the files you want to transfer to the server from your computer or floppy drive.
    • If you would like to change the name of the file, type in a new name on the bottom, right side of the screen. Note: Your main home page must be called index.html when it is placed on our server for others to be able to view your page properly.
    • Click the copy button that points toward the right.
    • You will see a progress bar that shows the percentage of the transfer that is complete.
    • The file is now on the web server. The URL of your page is http://members.scsisp.com.com/~your_username/ This is the address you should give others if they want to view your page.

    FTP for Macintosh (Fetch) (top of page)

    • Connect to the system as usual.
    • Launch Fetch.
    • Input the following into the dialog box that appears:
      Host: members.scsisp.com
      User ID: your account username
      Password: your account password
      Directory: /public_html/
    • Click the "Put File" button. You will be presented with a dialog box asking you to choose the file you want to send. Navigate through your folders, select the file and click "Open". If you are sending a binary file, Fetch will ask you which format to send the file in. VERY IMPORTANT: choose "Raw Data" from the pop-up menu.
    • To send a batch of files at once, choose "Put folders and files..." from the "Remote" menu. Select each file you wish to send by clicking on the file name followed by the "Add" button. when all of the files are selected, click "Done". Fetch will ask you which format you wish to send files in. For text files, choose "Text", for other files, choose "Raw Data". Click OK, all files will transfer to the server.
    • The file is now on the web server. Use your web browser to test the website. The URL of your page is http://members.scsisp.com/~your_username/ This is the address you should give others if they want to view your page.

    How Do I Upload My Commercial Web Pages?
    For now, Southern Comp Solutions LLC uses FTP (File Transfer Protocol) only. It allows you to transfer all kinds of files from the Internet.

    • If you would like to change the name of the file, type in a new name on the bottom, right side of the screen. Note: Your main home page must be called "index.html" and placed in your web site's root directory (ex. www.yourdomainname.com) for your site to be viewed properly.
    • Click the copy button that points toward the right.
    • You will see a progress bar that shows the percentage of the transfer that is complete.
    • The file is now on the web server. The URL of your page is http://www.your-domain-name.com.
